AMERICAN BOBTAIL CAT BREED INFORMATION

American Bobtails are loving and incredibly intelligent cats possessing a distinctive wild appearance. They are extremely interactive cats that bond with their human family with great devotion. They can both entertain through their antics at one moment and provide their owners a warm, soft shoulder to cry on in times of distress. American Bobtails are known for their love of games and can play fetch or hide and seek for hours on end. They will often initiate games with their owners, and they demonstrate their hunting instincts in the home by catching in mid-air flying insects that make the fatal mistake of entering their territory. They also love to stalk their toys and carry them in their mouths, as if they were a freshly caught rodent. The American Bobtail is also the chosen cat breed for Truck Drivers and people that travel alot due to their love for riding & traveling, as well as people with special needs due to their ability to form such a strong bond & their devotion to their human companion. Basically a quiet cat, the American Bobtail is known to trill, chirp, and click when delighted. They are easily leash trained and love to go for walks with their people. An easy going breed, they get along well with most dogs and welcome newcomers, whether they are two-legged or four-legged.

The American Bobtail was developed by natural selection to survive feral environments. They are medium to large cats with substantial rectangular bodies. The tail is short, expressive, and flexible and may be straight, slightly curved, slightly kinked, or have bumps along its length. No one length is preferred in breed standards, and no two tails are the same, varying in length and structure. The natural bobtail is clearly visible above the back when the cat is alert, and it should not extend beyond the hind hock. The combination of this distinctive tail with other physical characteristics results in a cat with a marked resemblance to the bobtailed wildcat. The head is a broad modified wedge with an observable whisker break above a well defined, broad, medium-length muzzle. Whisker pads are fleshy, and the chin is strong. The eye shape combined with the brow gives the breed its natural hunting gaze and expression of intelligence and alertness. The American Bobtail is a moderately long and substantial cat with a rectangular stance; the chest is full and broad with slightly higher hips and prominent shoulder blades. With legs of substantial boning, they possess a muscular and athletic appearance and are a deceptively heavy cat.

This is a slow maturing breed, taking two to three years to reach its adult size. Females are generally proportionately smaller than males. The American Bobtail comes in all colors and patterns, with preference given to colors and patterns that enhance the natural wild appearance of the breed. They come in two coat lengths: a dense shorthair coat and a medium longhair coat. The occasional bath and light brushing is all that is needed to keep the American Bobtail coat in tiptop form.

The American Bobtail developed initially through natural selection. The foundation stock for this breed were feral domestic cats possessing a natural bobtail. Experienced breeders, using found domestic bobtails from all over the United States, worked together to produce the gorgeous American Bobtails we have today. One of the more intriguing phenomena of the breed is the striking resemblance of cats with no known common heritage, from thousands of miles apart, have born to one another. By selectively breeding the like type cats, breeders have helped Mother Nature to develop the American Bobtail into the big, hearty, wild-looking bobtail cat seen today. No recognized breed of pedigreed cat has been used in the development of the American Bobtail. American Bobtails are a very strong and healthy breed, experiencing no known genetic predisposition to health problems.

When choosing your American Bobtail kitten, you should look for a reputable breeder, who will undoubtedly have a series of questions for you designed to make sure that you and the American Bobtail are compatible. Do not be surprised if there is a wait of some sort. These wonderful family members are worth it! Usually breeders make kittens available between twelve and sixteen weeks of age, when they have had sufficient time with their mother and littermates to be well socialized and old enough to have been fully vaccinated. Keeping your American Bobtail indoors, neutering or spaying, and providing acceptable surfaces (e.g. scratching posts) for the natural behavior of scratching are essential elements for maintaining a healthy, long, and joyful life.

Quick Sphynx Facts

  • Due to the Sphynx temperament & disposition they make excellent pets for children & families that have children.

  • Sphynx are the known to be the most "dog-like" cat breed. Meaning they are a cat of course, but have many traits of a canine companion and make excellent pets for that prefer dogs, but may not have the time or space to accommodate a dog.

  • Due to the Sphynx lack of hair/coat they require accommodations to made with their diet, fluid intake & outdoor exposure-They need a very high protein diet that includes both wet & dry foods, they need constant access to water because they tend to drink more their feline counterparts with a coat & they have to have protection from UV rays anytime they are outdoors because their skin burns just like ours.

  • Sphynx are highly intelligent.

  • Sphynx tend to be more allergy friendly than other feline breeds.

  • Because of their amazingly social tendencies and great personalities, Sphynx are one for the "funnest" cat breeds.

  • Sphynx are a feline that is low risk for genetic health issues & tend to live 14-18yrs.

SPHYNX CAT BREED INFORMATION

The Sphynx is a medium-size cat that typically weighs 6 to 12 pounds.

It’s a good thing that the Sphynx loves attention because he draws it wherever he goes! He is demanding of human attention and will do anything for a laugh. “Look at me!” is his catchphrase. That makes him easy to handle by veterinarians or anyone else, and it’s not unusual for a Sphynx to be a therapy cat since he is so fond of meeting people.

When he is not receiving the attentions of his adoring fans, the curious and energetic Sphynx is exploring his surroundings, climbing his cat tree or otherwise seeking high places, chasing a bug or just generally getting into mischief. He is extremely fond of teaser toys and puzzle toys that challenge his athleticism and brains.

This is a highly social cat. If you are gone during the day, the Sphynx will enjoy having a friend in the form of another Sphynx, another cat or even a dog. He likes the company and, equally important, he likes having someone to snuggle with so that he stays warm. He loves to be held, and you can expect him to sleep with you, most likely under the covers. Think of it as having a living hot water bottle.

Despite the bald body, a Sphynx requires at least as much grooming and care as cats with fur and maybe even more. Their skin must be kept moisturized with a gentle, scent-free lotion or oil, and they need weekly baths so as not to leave greasy spots on your furniture and clothing. Use a gentle baby shampoo or moisturizing shampoo and rinse thoroughly, especially between the folds of the wrinkles. If you begin bathing your Sphynx kitten while he is young, he will learn to accept and sometimes even enjoy baths. Baby wipes will help to keep him clean between baths. You will need to brush the teeth to prevent periodontal disease as your Sphynx ages. Daily dental hygiene is best so they become accustomed to it, but weekly brushing is better than nothing. Wipe the corners of the eyes daily with a soft, damp cloth to remove any discharge. Use a separate area of the cloth for each eye so you don’t run the risk of spreading any infection. Check the ears weekly. If they look dirty, wipe them out with a cotton ball or soft damp cloth moistened with a 50-50 mixture of cider vinegar and warm water. Avoid using cotton swabs, which can damage the interior of the ear.

Its best to keep the litter box spotlessly clean. Like all cats, Sphynx are very particular about bathroom hygiene.

Although the Sphynx feels warm to the touch, he doesn’t have a fur coat to keep him warm. If you’re cold, he probably is too. Buy him a nice sweater or two to help him retain heat. It’s a good idea to keep a Sphynx as an indoor-only cat or to have them a secured outdoor area with lots of shade & special fencing to protect him from other animals, along with the other dangers that face cats who go outdoors, such as being hit by a car or stolen. Sphynx run a high risk of being stolen by someone who would like to have such an unusual cat without paying for it. If your Sphynx has an outdoor enclosure where he can sunbathe, be sure to apply cat-safe sunscreen to his skin to prevent sunburn.

Bald, wrinkled and potbellied, the Sphynx is sometimes proclaimed to be ugly, but only by those who have a shallow understanding of beauty. His unusual body shape and the physiological and emotional warmth he emits are what attract people to him.

Much like an apricot, the hard, muscular body of the Sphynx can be smooth or covered with a fine, soft down. The nose, toes, ears and tail may also have a light covering of fur. To hug him is to melt into the warmth of his suedelike coat. A Sphynx does not have a higher body temperature than other cats, but it seems like it because there is no fur to serve as insulation.

A broad chest and a well-rounded abdomen give him the appearance of having eaten just a little too much at dinnertime, but he should not be fat. Supporting the body are firm, muscular legs set on oval paws with long, slender toes. Thick paw pads make the Sphynx look as if he is walking on “air cushions.” A long, slender, flexible tail is described as whiplike. A Sphynx with a little tuft of fur on the end of the tail is said to have a lion tail. Sphynx kittens are heavily wrinkled, but as they grow the wrinkles smooth out, although some remain throughout the cat’s life. A Sphynx should not be so wrinkled that eyesight or other functions are compromised.

The head of the Sphynx is a modified wedge shape, slightly longer than it is wide, with prominent cheekbones, large ears and large, lemon-shaped eyes. Whiskers and eyebrows are sparse to nonexistent.

The Sphynx comes in all colors and patterns, including white, black, red, chocolate, lavender, various tabby patterns, tortoiseshell, calico, bicolor, and pointed and mink patterns. The color is seen in the pigment of the skin as well as in whatever hair the cat has and can sometimes be difficult to distinguish.

The active and social Sphynx is a perfect choice for families with children and cat-friendly dogs. He learns tricks easily and loves the attention he receives from children who treat him politely and with respect. He lives peacefully with dogs and other cats. Always introduce pets slowly and in controlled circumstances to ensure that they learn to get along together.

LABRADOODLE BREED INFORMATION

At their best, Labradoodles are intelligent, friendly, and affectionate. They come in three sizes: miniature (weighing 15 to 30 pounds), medium (30 to 45 pounds), and standard (45 to more than 100 pounds). Because they are a crossbreed their traits are not fixed, so there is no guarantee that the Labradoodle puppy you purchase will fall into the desired weight range.

Labradoodles have a moderate activity level. Larger Labradoodles may be more active than their smaller kin. They need a good walk or active playtime each day, and, if you’re interested (and the dog's overall health is good enough), they are athletic enough to participate in such dog sports as agility, flyball, obedience, and rally. They can also be excellent therapy dogs.

Both of the breeds used to create Labradoodles tend to be smart and learn quickly. If you begin socialization and training early and use positive reinforcement techniques such as praise, play, and food rewards, you will be rewarded with a wonderful companion.

Poodles & Poodle Crosses have a reputation for being hypoallergenic or partially hypoallergenic, meaning that they can be better tolerated by people who have allergies to dogs. However allergies are not caused by a particular dog coat type but rather by a species specific dander, the dead skin cells that are shed by all dogs (and people). Some people with mild allergies react less severely to particular breeds of dogs.

If you are interested in a Labradoodle, start your search with a reputable breeder. This type of cross-breed is often readily available & easily accessible to get, but it is important to get one where the proper genetics have focused on to get the best temperament & healthiest pup available. Always go with a breeder that is willing to take the time to answer questions, offers a health guarantee, provides vet paperwork and breed specific care information.

Quick Labradoodle Facts

  • Labradoodles are more allergy friendly than most other breeds.

  • Labradoodles are companion dogs. They love their people & need to be included as part of the family due to the strong bond they form with humans.

  • A well-bred Labradoodle should be sociable, friendly, non-aggressive, and extremely intuitive.

  • Labradoodles are extremely intelligent.

  • Labradoodles are one of the top 10 chosen therapy dogs.

  • Labradoodles have a generally mellow disposition, making them excellent family & therapy pets.

  • Due to the cross breed between purebred dogs, Labradoodles are less likely to have genetic health issues & are typically healthier & heartier than than the pure-breeds.

PUDELPOINTER BREED INFORMATION

A designer breed that is rare to find, a Standard Poodle & German Wirehaired Pointer Cross. This gorgeous breed makes a wonderful house dog and also makes an excellent hunting or watch dog!

Pudelpointers are highly intelligent, friendly, and affectionate. They tend to range between 60 & 100lbs in size.

Pudelpointers have a moderate activity level. They need a good walk or active playtime each day, and, if you’re interested (and the dog's overall health is good enough), they are athletic enough to participate in such dog sports as agility, flyball, obedience, and rally. This designer breed is very agile! They can also be excellent therapy or children's dogs.

Both of the breeds used to create the Pudelpointer tend to be smart and learn very quickly. If you begin socialization and training early and use positive reinforcement techniques such as praise, play, and food rewards, you will be rewarded with a wonderful and very intelligent companion.

The Pudelpointer has a reputation for being one of the mostly hypoallergenic breeds with a fairly low maintenance coat. But depending on if they have a more curly or wiry coat, will be the determining factor of maintenance level, so a bi-monthly trip to the groomer cannot be ruled out.

If you are interested in a Pudelpointer, start your search with a reputable breeder. This particular type of cross-breed is often very difficult to find, as the German Wirehaired Pointer is not a common breed that is easily found. It is important to get one where the proper genetics have focused on to get the best temperament & healthiest pup available. Always go with a breeder that is willing to take the time to answer questions, offers a health guarantee, provides vet paperwork and breed specific care information.
